DTL FontMaster (FM) is a set of tools for professional font production. It includes a module for designing and editing letters in Bezier (BE) format: BezierMaster, interpolating fonts: BlendMaster, testing and correcting glyphs: ContourMaster, comparing fontdata: CompareMaster, generating and converting font formats: DataMaster, the editing of the Ikarus (IK) format: IkarusMaster, generating kern pairs: KernMaster, checking and adjusting OpenType Layout tables OTMaster, and auto-tracing: TraceMaster.
Batch functions make processing of large quantities of data at once possible. The modular system makes FM very versatile not only for users but actually also for its developers to keep the software up-to-date
The Dutch Type Library has produced digital typefaces since the end of the 1980s. As font production at DTL became more professional and complex, the need for exclusive specialist font software was grew. In the second half of the 1990s, the programmers of URW++ Design & Development GmbH started developing the FM modules for Mac OS™ and Windows™, that are available to everyone now.
